Après avoir récupéré les droits de la licence Zorro, l’éditeur Alien Books annonce ses premiers projets. Et cela commencera en mai 2026 avec la version classique du héros dans une mini-série scénarisée par Howard Chaykin et dessinée par Jorge Fornes.
The first mini-series, titled Zorro , will launch in April 2026 from the team of Howard Chaykin and Jorge Fornés. The series will follow Don Diego de la Vega as the crime-fighting Avenger faces off against Napoleon Bonaparte . « I grew up with Zorro, the television series, the comics, the Fairbanks and Power pictures–and loved them all, » says Howard Chaykin. « I’m delighted to have had the opportunity to tell a Zorro story that takes our hero on an adventure a world away from the hills of San Capistrano. » « Howard Chaykin is one of my favorite creators in both writing and drawing, » explains artist Jorge Fornés. « I hadn’t had the opportunity to work with him until now, and I didn’t want to pass it up. I’m absolutely thrilled that we’re able to collaborate on this book. »

Etonnant, un peu frustrant mais très joli. Howard Chaykin lance une mini-série sur Zorro où tout va vite, très vite… trop vite, en fait. Il y a constamment de l’action, et c’est une course constante, avec Zorro et Seamus McCool qui collaborent pour mener la révolte en Amérique du Sud, puis ils ont des éléments pour aller vers une île dont le volcan provoque un nuage de cendres dans le monde, puis Seamus trahit la révolte pour les Français, puis Zorro le course, puis ça se bagarre, puis un bateau brûle, puis… puis… puis ça continuera au prochain épisode.
Objectivement, le scénario ne m’emballe pas : trop d’action tue l’action, et je manque d’éléments pour m’accrocher, pour m’intéresser. Le déluge d’actions est en soi fun, mais abusif ici, et j’ai l’impression qu’il me manque des bouts d’intrigue. Dommage, alors que le graphisme de Jorge Fornes est superbe, dans un classicisme formidable, une narration maîtrisée et des pages aussi belles que riches.
