ALL STAR SECTION EIGHT #1-6 (Garth Ennis / John McCrea)

L’éditeur DC Comics semble vouloir diversifier son catalogue post-Convergence. C’est le cas par exemple avec le nouveau projet du scénariste Garth Ennis et du dessinateur John McCrea, Section Eight, qui s’intéressera à l’équipe ridicule présentée dans la série sur le tueur à gage Hitman (1993-2001).

L’équipe comprenait alors Sixpack, le héros alcoolo; The Defenestrator qui a la capacité de balancer les gens par la fenêtre; Dogwelder, l’homme qui « soude » des chiens aux gens; Friendly Fire, qui ne peut s’empêcher de tirer ses rayons sur ses alliés; Jean de Baton-Baton, le français adepte du combat à la baguette et du jet d’oignons; Flemgem dont la capacité est de jeter de la morve; Shakes, qui énerve tout le monde; et Bueno Excellente, un cliché sur pattes dont le pouvoir est de, littéralement, prendre les gens par derrière.

Il est surprenant de voir Ennis revenir chez DC Comics avec un tel projet. La dernière fois que l’auteur anglais a travaillé pour l’éditeur, il est ressorti avec sa série The Boys sous le bras parce que Vertigo/DC Comics la jugeait trop violente.

Pour assurer quelques ventes supplémentaires de ses titres labellisés Convergence, l’éditeur DC Comics a proposé plusieurs prologues exclusifs servant à promouvoir le lancement de ses sept nouvelles séries (Omega Men, Starfire, Section Eight, Prez, Midnighter, Doomed, Red Hood & Arsenal) ainsi que le changement de direction des titres Detective Comics et Green Lantern en juin.
