The Black Panther Anniversary Special #1 launches in February from Marvel Comics, celebrating 60 years of T’Challa and Wakanda, as created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee for the Fantastic Four in 1966. and will include a story between Black Panther and Magneto set in the time when the mutant nation of Genosha still stood.
This comes when the main Black Panther: Intergalactic series by Victor La Valle and Stefano Nesi launching in December, where the king of Wakanda is currently trying to unite his kingdom—both on Earth and in the stars, and the Black Panther will also team up with different heroes throughout February in a new line of variant covers by Marvel’s Stormbreakers artists.

Pour les 60 ans de Black Panther, Marvel livre un one-shot avec un petit récit reliant les hommages. Sympathique et réussi en soi.
Evan Narcisse et Georges Jeanty commencent avec « The Understanding », où Kasper Cole, le Black Panther street de la fin du run de Christopher Priest, est désormais un Hatut Zeraze qui s’inquiète de l’absence de T’Challa. Il mène l’enquête auprès de ses proches, comme la Reine Ramonda, la ville où T’Challa s’était installé récemment et ensuite Blue Marvel, tout en se rappelant l’ampleur des réussites et événements autour de Black Panther ces dernières années, avec aussi les contestations wakandaises sur son règne.
Un lancement correct avec une bonne revue des événements. Je suis content de revoir Kasper, et le dessin est simple mais efficace.
Cody Ziglar et Alitha E. Martinez enchaînent avec « Once A Blue Moon » sur un souvenir de Blue Marvel, où lui et T’Challa tentaient une expérimentation sur un autre monde en discutant du poids des responsabilités et des hommes que cela crée.
Un segment assez simple, pas mauvais mais pas utile, avec du blabla lourd et des dessins trop basiques.
Murewa Ayodele et Eder Messias continuent avec « Through My Eyes », où Kasper est au Storm Sanctuary pour parler avec Ororo qui évoque un événement de l’époque de son mariage avec T’Challa. Un rituel secret où, chaque année, le Roi doit descendre dans un labyrinthe mystique pour détruire des monstres qui allaient attaquer le pays. Il réussit mais remonte à chaque fois dans la douleur et la peine, mais cette fois-ci, Ororo est venue le rejoindre pour le soulager, même si elle rappelle que la force de caractère de T’Challa pour défendre son peuple rappelle aussi celle de Magneto envers les Mutants.
Un chapitre intense et épique, qui flatte la force de T’Challa et l’attachement de Storm, avec de jolis dessins grandiloquents.
Enfin, Christopher Priest et Javier Pina s’occupent de « Exiles », où l’on revient sur la fin du run de Christopher Priest. T’Challa souffrait alors d’un anévrisme qui a disparu sans jamais être soigné… mais l’on voit que Magneto l’a contacté alors pour récupérer des données prises par un Hatut Zeraze avant la destruction de Genosha. Magnus propose à T’Challa de le soigner s’il l’aide à libérer son agent détenu ailleurs pour que Magneto récupère les données, capables de reconstruire et venger Genosha. Le duo collabore difficilement, T’Challa nie connaître l’homme mais celui-ci donne ses données pour sauver son Roi, même si Magnus se demande si les informations ont été corrompues ou non. Et Magnus a bien soigné la maladie de T’Challa, en secret et honorablement.
Un bon chapitre, avec ce bon duo de contraires qui se ressemblent, et un bon point de continuité dans une belle ambiance de faux semblants avec de jolis dessins.
Les auteurs du début achètent le récit global avec Kasper qui n’a pas retrouvé T’Challa avant l’anniversaire de la mort de T’Chaka, mais il le croise par surprise dans la foule et ils profitent en silence des festivités.
Un numéro sympathique, bien mené, pas parfait mais qui valorise le personnage et rappelle et règle quelques bons points de continuité. Cool.
