Au début des années 90, le groupe CGW* développe une nouvelle ligne de comics sous la bannière Comics’ Greatest World pour Dark Horse.
Le but pour le jeune éditeur est de capitaliser sur le genre super-héroïque en inventant, au sein d’un univers partagé, quatre nouvelles villes** peuplées de nouveaux Héros estampillés « Cheval Noir ».
Alors que le projet parait avec 3 ans de retard, Dark Horse est confronté au jeune concurrent Image Comics (1992) dont on lui reproche même de copier les nouveaux codes mainstream. La collection est boudée par le lectorat et seule la série Ghost subsiste bien après son effondrement en 1996.
Dans le cadre de son revival des séries Comics’ Greatest World opéré avec le lancement de X, Ghost et le futur crossover 2 Past Midnight, l’éditeur a engagé le scénariste Joe Casey (The Bounce, Sex) pour ressusciter le titre Catalyst: Agents of Change qui devient Catalyst Comix, une nouvelle anthologie en 9 parties illustrée par Dan McDaid, Paul Maybury et Ulises Farinas.

Je ne pense pas. Surtout que* Catalyst Comix* a été annoncé avant la reprise de Star Wars par Disney, il me semble.
Randy Stradley (responsable éditorial des titres Star Wars chez DH) disait, il y a peu, dans un entretien avec le site comicbookresources:

Après c’est comme d’habitude avec Casey, t’as l’impression qu’il va lancer un truc super révolutionnaire et en fin de compte même si ça reste du bon comics ça n’a rien de bien transcendant. Néanmoins, j’avoue que j’ai passé un bon moment à lire le premier et que j’attends la suite impatiemment ! (il faut dire que les dessinateurs qui bossent sur ces histoires me plaisent beaucoup !)
Je te rejoins assez sur Casey.
J’ia bien aimé le numéro 1 (pas encore lu le 2). Si je ne suis pas trop fan d’Ulises Farinas, j’aime beaucoup Dan McDaid que j’avais découvert sur le numéro muet de Mind The Gap.
C’est le gros problème de Joe Casey actuellement. Pointant du doigt les problèmes du milieu (sauf quand il mange à leur table) à outrance, arguant sur sa grande révolution comics indépendant pour ne faire au final qu’une pâle copie de ce qui existe déjà avec supplément de jurons, de drogue et une intrigue faussement compliquée.
Si c’est tout ce que permet l’indépendantisme…
On est très loin de sa période Stormwatch 3.0. où il était en adéquation avec le style Wildstorm, ou même sur Godland. Parce que, c’est bien gentil Butcher Baker, mais l’humour de Lobo et de Marshal Law existe déjà depuis trois décennies. Et l’album ne vaut, en définitif, que pour son excellent dessinateur Mike Huddleston avec lequel Casey s’est engueulé pour une histoire de Deadline. Quand on sait que les lecteurs attendent la fin de Godland depuis plus de deux ans, il y a de quoi rire.
Cela dit, j’ai bien aimé son premier numéro de Catalyst Comix. C’est potable à lire, juste très loin du génie annoncé à coup de clairon.
