Derek Landy (INFINITY WATCH) joins Carlos Magno (CAPTAIN AMERICA) to send Doctor Strange in a fantastical and ambitious new direction!
Sympathique, bien qu’en soi plutôt difficilement cohérent avec les éléments récents sur Dr Strange. Derek Landy prend ici la main sur un personnage (bien) écrit par Jed MacKay ces dernières années, pour lui faire affronter les conséquences de Blood Hunt (de MacKay) par une décision surprenante et peu expliquée. On voit en effet Stephen qui arrive en Asgard pour demander à Thor d’en devenir le nouveau Sorcier Suprême, profitant du bannissement de Loki (Skald officiel du Royaume jusque-là) et pour se rebâtir une confiance après la perte de son titre face à Dr Doom. Thor accepte si Stephen convainc une Sorcière, Strange se trouve un ami local (qui veut écrire des histoires d’amour et d’humour) en le sauvant de sales types puis une chambre. Un Sorcier apprenti le cherche pour voir la Sorcière, jeune et stricte mais qui accepte Stephen. Loki arrive, s’amuse du bannissement et milite pour que Strange devient Sorcier Suprême en le remplaçant, proposant même un sortilège pour lui permettre de mieux comprendre la magie locale. Mais Loki poignarde la Sorcière, avant de disparaître en disant qu’il n’a pas fait ça… et laisse Stephen avec un cadavre et l’apprenti qui demande des nouvelles !
C’est sympathique. Derek Landy gère bien la vision d’un Asgard à hauteur d’homme, avec des habitants loin du Palais Royal et des personnages croisés sympathiques. Le décalage avec Stephen est bon, l’apparition de Loki est prévisible et réussie, avec un mystère qui ne surprend pas mais fonctionne. Par contre, Stephen qui fuit la Terre dominée par Dr Doom par sa faute indirecte, c’est incohérent avec Dr Strange mais surtout celui écrit par MacKay, tellement fusionnel avec Clea absente sans cohérence ici. Ça nuit un peu à l’ensemble, qui bénéficie de dessins corrects et solides de Carlos Magno.
Sympathique en soi, mais à la cohérence douteuse.

• Doctor Strange went to Asgard to become its Sorcerer Supreme. But now he’s covering up a murder - one that Thor would be furious to hear about. And as if that isn’t enough, it turns out Asgardian landlords also charge rent.
• Strange will have to find a killer - and a job - while gaining mastery over Asgardian magic, dodging Thor’s mounting suspicions and evading mysterious assassins. Maybe moving to the Land of the Gods wasn’t such a good idea…RATED T+

Mieux que le #1, sans être formidable. Derek Landy gère mieux son scénario ici, où Stephen Strange doit gérer le meurtre de la Sorcière Hulda par Loki, qui crie son innocence. Stephen retrouve Loki caché sur Terre, dans le Sanctom Sanctorum, pour que Clea et lui emprisonnent Loki et lui arrache la confirmation qu’il se pense innocent. Stephen retourne en Asgard, et tente de trouver quelqu’un pour l’aider dans un sortilège de divination. Il croise plusieurs personnes qu’il ne sent pas capables ou pertinentes, tout en passant une journée de test chez un médecin qui le déprécie mais finalement valide sa présence comme soignant des Asgardiens. Stephen renoue avec l’apprenti de la Sorcière, à qui il fait confiance et à qui il confie qu’il ne veut rien dire à Thor pour ne pas briser le peu de lien qui l’unie à Loki. L’apprenti l’aide à cacher le corps et accepte de l’aider ensuite, mais Stephen est attaqué la nuit par un assaillant masqué. Il le fait fuir, mais a désormais une hache comme indice…
C’est bien ; pas foufou, mais bien en soi. Derek Landy gère une enquête difficile pour Stephen, avec de bons passages, comme les soins aux Asgardiens et la découverte de personnages anonymes basiques mais sympathiques. Stephen est correct dans son rôle d’enquêteur, les démarches sont fluides, et l’ensemble est prévisible mais agréable. Carlos Magno propose des planches solides, toujours chargées d’ombres mais bien adaptées à l’ambiance.
Une enquête correcte, sans grosse surprise mais bien menée.
