Draw,Pardner!..Then…REdraw!
the layouts for Marvel Team-Up #136 in 1983 were actually commissioned months earlier by out-going editor Tom DeFalco as an inventory story to be slotted at a later date.
That later date came soonest as new editor Danny Fingeroth decided there was no time like the present to make up some time on the publishing schedule.
Before publication, however,Mr.Fingeroth felt some revisions were in order as was his editorial prerogative.
He felt the Spider-Man figure on the title page stretched anatomical credulity a bit much and requested something a bit more Spider-traditional for the time.
No argument from me as a similar request had been made of me on a Spidey guest-shot in Ka-zar previously.
I recently saw this xerox again and was struck by the original pose’s similarity to a Spider-defining anniversary cover five years later by a super-star artist that at the time had yet to blaze to industry warming life.

We could’ve been out ahead of everybody,Dan!
Oh well.
