Sympathique.
Je suis très difficile dans les comics de super-héros avec de l’humour et, si je n’ai pas ri en lisant ce numéro, je le trouve agréable et réjouissant. Joanne Starer amène Fire et Ice à Smallville après l’épisode spécial de Power Girl, où Superman a « poussé » pour qu’elles y aillent après leurs dérapages. Les deux héroïnes, qui se souviennent que Clark est Superman, sont accueillies par Martha Kent, et emménagent dans un salon de coiffure qu’elles louent. Fire veut absolument poursuivre le super-héroïsme, Ice beaucoup moins. Ice échange beaucoup avec Martha, engage une coiffeuse, et Fire « provoque » King Shark en ligne. Superman le stoppe en ville, Fire le prend mal et s’engueule avec Ice, qui veut abandonner le super-héroïsme et apprécie de tenir le salon. Fire, blasée, en vient à appeler Ambush Bug à l’aide… alors que, en flash-forward, on voit que Smallville est en feu deux semaines plus tard !
C’est sympathique, oui. Joanne Starer gère plutôt bien ses personnages, avec beaucoup de sensibilité et de douceur mélancolique pour Ice, et le côté enflammé de Fire. Ca reste imparfait, parce que c’est un peu lent, mais ça fait un peu sourire, et ça a une approche un peu mélancolique, je le redis, qui fonctionne.
Graphiquement, Natacha Bustos assure dans un style très clair, quasi cartoon, sans trop y verser. Ce n’est pas « beau » mais c’est agréable à suivre.
Description: What’s a Smallville fight club without any fighters? While Ice discovers the magic of community heroism – no superpowers required – Fire’s latest scheme to restore their former glory brings Ambush Bug(?!) to town, but their violent attempts at viral fame go unnoticed by the world. Could a chance encounter with Smallville’s hottest bartender show Fire the light? Or will the sparks that fly between them burn the town to the ground? It’s Fire we;re talking about, so…probably the latter?
Sympathique, mais… ça n’avance pas trop, et je reste peu sensible à l’humour chez les super-héros, quand même.
Joanne Starer enchaîne ainsi, et se donne du mal pour faire sourire ; elle y arrive, un peu. Fire essaye de monter sa cote en ligne, en embauchant Ambush Bug pour de faux combats, mais ça ne prend pas. Ses échanges avec l’employée de la boutique qu’elle possède avec Ice la mène à une idée surprenante : faire de la boutique un centre de réhabilitation pour super-vilains nazes. Ice profite de Smallville en découvrant une jeune femme, qui l’amène à des activités normales et bénévoles qui lui plaisent. La découverte de ce que fait Fire se passe mal, Bea flirte avec un barman handicapé (frère de la nouvelle amie d’Ice), et… les problèmes s’accumulent.
C’est sympa’, oui. Joanne Starer gère bien ses personnages, même si ça reste quand même très « simple » dans les caractérisations et rebondissements. Cela demeure convenu, un peu drôle… enfin, je souris un peu, ce qui est déjà beaucoup pour de l’humour super-héroïque. Mais ça m’emballe moyennement.
Graphiquement, Natacha Bustos propose des planches cartoonesques sympathiques et jolies, adaptées au propos.
C’est gentil, ça me fait un peu sourire, mais ce n’est pas pleinement mon truc.
Jimmy Olsen comes to town with his ear to the ground for a Daily Planet scoop, and Fire and Ice have a beauty salon full of ex-villains that Fire’s certain they can rehabilitate (in fabulous reality- show fashion, no less!) and Ice is desperate to hide.
But if they’re gonna make it through the day without Big Blue swinging back through Smallville to clean up their mess, Fire and Ice will have to look past the growing chasm between them and work together to sell Superman’s pal the story of a lifetime.

Description: Ice’s worst fears about Fire’s antics are confirmed when a horrifying revelation comes to light, and whatever trust they’d tentatively rebuilt crumbles to dust. And despite Martha Kent’s best attempts to mediate over Smallville’s finest drag brunch, there might be no coming back for what was once the Justice League’s most dynamic duo. (Booster and Beetle who?) Oh, and Lobo shows up hot and bothered to throw down in Fire’s defunct fight club. What could possibly go wrong?
Fire and Ice’s salon has gone up in flames, and Smallville doesn’t seem far behind it. The villains in residence grow restless for bedlam and a better payday than they’ve had access to since joining Fire’s “rehabilitation program,” and even the locals have got a strange, almost possessed gleam in their eyes these days…
