To celebrate Hispanic & Latin American Heritage Month, Marvel will spotlight trailblazing Spirit of Vengeance Robbie Reyes in GHOST RIDER: ROBBIE REYES SPECIAL #1. The one-shot will be the latest installment in the MARVEL’S VOICES line and will highlight Hispanic and Latin American creators and culture in three action-packed stories.
On sale in October, GHOST RIDER: ROBBIE REYES SPECIAL #1 will be written and drawn by a host acclaimed talent and rising stars, including the return of Robbie Reyes co-creator Felipe Smith! Robbie Reyes, the fiery street racer from East Los Angeles, debuted 10 years ago in ALL-NEW GHOST RIDER #1 where he was engulfed in hellfire and given awesome new power! Since then, he’s become one of the most iconic Ghost Riders in the Marvel Universe and a valued member of the Avengers.
In these exciting new tales, see how far Robbie has come as he puts vengeance into overdrive! Plus, GHOST RIDER: ROBBIE REYES SPECIAL #1 will feature the first ever appearance of Fantasma, the all-new Ghost Rider created by Luciano Vecchio for last year’s New Champions variant cover program.
Today, fans see all three covers for GHOST RIDER: ROBBIE REYES SPECIAL #1, including the main cover by superstar artist Humberto Ramos, a breathtaking variant cover by Marvel Comics newcomer J. Gonzo, and a cover spotlighting Fantasma by Gerardo Sandoval.

Je l’admets, je n’ai jamais été fan de Robbie Reyes. Déjà, je ne suis pas fan de Ghost Rider, même si j’aime bien à petites doses ; mais Robbie ne m’a jamais intéressé, avant les Avengers de Jason Aaron qui l’ont bien traité. C’est avec curiosité que j’ai lu ce one-shot, sympathique mais dont on se demande un peu pourquoi il arrive, et pourquoi maintenant.
On a d’abord le segment Offrenda par Carlos Hernandez et Moisés Hidalgo où, au présent, Captain Marvel & Captain America vont à la maison des Reyes, suite à une alerte de police. C’est en vérité un moment à part pour Gabe, frère de Robbie, et sa petite-amie, qui font une Offrenda pour Robbie. Gabe est amer vis-à-vis des Avengers mais veut croire que Robbie reviendra - et si celui-ci semble perdre tout espoir de retour dans The God Quarry, un élément de l’Offrenda lui apparaît et lui redonne la motivation.
Bon, c’est sympathique. Ca fait suite aux Avengers d’Aaron, c’est efficace, l’amertume de Gabe est légitime, et les dessins ronds et sympathiques fonctionnent bien. Ca fait le job pour préparer le retour.
On enchaîne avec ce Of Wolves and Sheep de Felipe Smith (créateur de Robbie, qui est interviewé en parallèle) et Daniel Bayliss. Avec une course-poursuite démoniaque, dans le passé, et Robbie qui revient voir son frère pour le dîner, avec un numéro de sa BD préférée.
Bon, c’est mignon mais vite oublié. Les dessins sont corrects mais n’emballent pas, et le propos est juste mais déjà-vu et trop premier degré. M’enfin, ça se lit.
Enfin, A Fantasmic Roller Derby Adventure par Melissa Flores et Jan Bazaldua montre Robbie stopper des chiens infernaux et être aidé par la mystérieuse Fantasma, qui croit bien être maudite.
Ca se lit, mais ça n’apporte rien hormis cette nouvelle super-héroïne dont on sait trop peu. Les dessins sont aussi corrects, mais ça s’oublie vite.
En définitive, un one-shot un peu vain, qui explique bien l’intérêt et l’impact de Robbie Reyes comme super-héros latino, mais avec des chapitres bien trop mièvres en soi.
