Bof, bof. Pas mauvais, mais gros bof pour ce premier numéro spécial Giant-Size X-Men où Ms. Marvel visite les grandes heures de la franchise. Pourquoi ? Officiellement, pour stopper une menace temporelle obscure. Officieusement, pour l’ancrer définitivement chez les X-Men et révéler son pouvoir Mutant. Après un prologue 1500 ans dans un futur évidemment sombre et oppressant pour les Mutants, une personnalité de Légion (qui comme les autres a perdu David Haller qui est dans la White Hot Room) veut stopper l’engrenage et va dans le passé. Au présent, Kamala et son ami discutent de sa situation et ses doutes sur révéler ou non son identité à ses parents, mais elle est happée par un phénomène temporel. Elle arrive au Giant-Size X-Men #1 de base, quand Cyclope va briefer les Nouveaux X-Men contre Krakoa. Il la reconnaît car il a accès (ah ?) aux souvenirs du jeune Cyclope des All-New X-Men qui était dans les Champions avec elle. Elle s’impose auprès de Xavier et aide la fluidité de l’équipe, mais Légion attaque, ça se bagarre, et elle règle la crise Krakoa en parlant Krakoan avec lui. Mais grosse explosion et Kamala arrive au moment du Dark Phoenix…
Gros bof. Collin Kelly & Jackson Lanzing sont de bons scénaristes mais, sur ce qui semble être des commandes, comme ici ou l’horrible Timeless sur un Luke Cage futuriste, ils sont un cran en dessous de leurs projets personnels. Là, ils écrivent bien Kamala même si elle sonne comme la Miss Je Sais Tout bien embêtante. Ça va amplifier le rejet que certains ont pour elle, et c’est dommage car ils l’écrivaient mieux dans NYX. Le reste est basique, avec menace faiblarde et un Adam Kubert en petite forme.
Un projet foireux réalisé sans briller par des auteurs peu inspirés.

Kamala Khan’s Travels Through X-History Continue in Giant-Size Dark Phoenix Saga #1 on shelves and digital platforms on June 11, 2025, from Marvel Comics
Purée, c’est nul et faux. Collin Kelly & Jackson Lanzing m’avaient peu intéressé sur le lancement de cette saga en carton, cette suite s’enfonce salement. Kamala rebondit dans la Timeline pour suivre le Légion futuriste tout fâché, et tous deux arrivent à l’époque Dark Phoenix. Ce Légion convainc le Phoenix d’abandonner Jean pour lui, avec ensuite les X-Men qui ont du mal avec elle pour les événements brutaux passés. Kamala réconforte Jean alors que Légion/Phoenix revient car Kamala est devenue son ancre. Les X-Men et la Garde Impériale s’unissent sur la Lune, tous tombent mais Jean reprend le Phoenix et se sacrifie. Légion confronte Kamala, qui avant a maîtrisé ses pouvoirs mutants (projections lumineuses), et tous deux rebondissent dans le Temps pour arriver à Age of Apocalypse.
C’est nul et erroné, oui. Nul car lourd, mal raconté, mal pensé, avec une Kamala imposée grossièrement et un Légion bête et méchant. Et erroné car on dit ici que Jean est possédée par le Phoenix, ce qui est faux car c’est alors le Phénix qui s’est créé un corps basé sur Jean qui de rétablit dans le fleuve. C’est donc mal fochi et lourd, avec cependant de beaux dessins de Rod Reis.
En back-up, Steve Foxe livre un bilan sentimental de Jean dans l’espace envers Scott et sa vie, un chapitre anodin mais fort joliment dessiné par Lucas Werneck.
Un naufrage.

C’était ce que l’annonce du projet promettait non? C’est pas une surprise.
Bullshit.
Jean n’a été l’hôte du Phénix que deux fois (chez Morrison et actuellement) et n’est morte que deux fois (chez Morrison et au dernier Hellfire Gala en date), et non pas trois fois ! Quand même !
Les scénaristes me laissaient un peu d’espoir.
