GRIFTER #1-9 (Rob Liefeld, Frank Tieri /Scott Clark)

Suite aux événements du crossover Flashpoint qui a vu le héros Flash (Barry Allen) confronté à la troisième Guerre Mondiale entre Aquaman et Wonder Woman sur une Terre parallèle (sous la menace constante de son Nemesis, le Nega-Flash) l’éditeur DC Comics a décidé de relancer son univers, justifié par la réécriture de certains Super-Héros qui n’étaient plus en adéquations avec leur époque. Le New 52 c’est la politique agressive de DC Comics en réponse au marché actuelle, 52 nouvelles séries en perpétuel évolution.

Avec l’arrêt de sa série Hawk and Dove, le dessinateur Rob Liefeld s’empresse de faire les poches de son ancien collègue Jim Lee, tente de s’accrocher au premier projet qui vient et récolte trois titres sur la brèche qui auraient dû faire partie des huit séries annulées en avril. Mais 11 titres annulés sur 52, ça fait trop. Alors DC lui propose trois bourrins: The Savage Hawkman, Deathtroke (l’inspiration principale de Liefeld pour… tous ses personnages) et Grifter, un ex-héros d’Image pour un ex-fondateur. En somme, DC lui offre des personnages dans ses cordes pour se donner le temps de préparer de nouveaux titres pour la future vague d’annulation à venir.

Sur la série Grifter, Rob Liefeld est accompagné par le co-scénariste Frank Tieri et le dessinateur régulier du titre depuis septembre, Scott Clark. Son premier arc lui permet aussi de réintroduire les deux mercenaires (sa marque de fabrique) Deathblow et Cheshire.
