Annoncé récemment, le nouveau reboot cinématographique d’Hellboy est en développement depuis plusieurs mois puisque d’après le site Deadline, la production débutera le mois prochain.
Ce quatrième long métrage est scénarisé par Mike Mignola et son collaborateur régulier Christopher Golden et s’inspirera de la mini-série The Crooked Man illustrée par le regretté Richard Corben.
The new film will see Hellboy and a rookie BPRD agent stranded in 1950s rural Appalachia. There, they discover a small community haunted by witches, led by a local devil with a troubling connection to Hellboy’s past: the Crooked Man.
In the comic, The Crooked Man was an eighteenth-century miser and war profiteer named Jeremiah Witkins who was hanged for his crimes yet returned from Hell as the region’s resident Devil.

“The Crooked Man is a departure from all previous Hellboy films where Mike Mignola and the creator of the comics will finally shepherd an authentic version of his stories and characters in film form,” said Millennium Media’s President Jeffrey Greenstein who is at the EFM in Berlin talking to potential distributors about the project. “This is the first in the series of films that will captivate audiences in familiar (and new) ways. Brian Taylor is an expert across the board, and I couldn’t think of a better person to bring this story to life to show our audience this different and original Hellboy slate of films.”
« So first of all, I love the character of Hellboy and my favorite run of the character is this particular era. The GDT movies were massive scale space operas and just pure Del Toro through and through. But some of the comics Mike (Mignola) was doing at the time had a very different feeling. More lean and mean, creepy folk horror. A younger Hellboy, wandering the dark corners of the world… Paranormal investigator, night stalker… The Crooked Man in particular is just such an iconic book—written by Mike, drawn by Richard Corben, another legend. Set in the late 50s. For me it’s my favorite version of the character. So the appeal of this one to me, is to go back to that and do a real reset, and really give us that version of Hellboy, which I just don’t think we’ve seen yet. »
Ce qui serait amusant, c’est de retrouver les déclarations de Taylor avant la sortie de son Ghost Rider.
Je suis sûr que c’était un « fan du personnage, qu’il a grandi avec lui, et qu’il adore l’imagerie horrifique que l’univers dégage. » et bien sûr, que « la suite permettra de développer le personnage de Johnny Ketch, en lui créant une relation émouvante et inédite, qui le mettra dans une position inédite, un vrai dilemme propre aux héros de Marvel. »
Je ne me souviens plus de son Ghost Rider avec son compère, absent ici. Je sais que ce n’était pas bon, mais je ne sais plus si ça ne tenait qu’à leur réalisation lourdingue, ou le manque de moyens et un scénario loupé.
Après, bon, il est dans la promo’, ça a du sens. Je suis plus surpris de l’acharnement d’adapter Hellboy en film après l’échec de la version précédente, si récente.
Fallait s’attendre à une tête d’affiche inconnue du grand public. Et après l’échec du précédent, j’ai l’impression que le budget de ce quatrième film sera aussi revu à la baisse, en accord avec le sujet et ce type d’ambiance…
Carrément ! On dirait un film dans la droite lignée de Wolverine VS Wonder Woman.
Et ces effets à la Sam Raimi du pauvre… Encore… Ça fait un peu froid dans le dos.
