C’est maintenant officiel : Joaquin Phoenix sera bien le Joker dans un long métrage consacré aux origines du Clown Prince du Crime.
Ce film, qui n’a pas encore de titre définitif et qui ne sera pas rattaché à la continuité du DC Extended Universe (ce qui explique que la Warner développe toujours d’autres projets avec Jared Leto), est présenté comme un film noir et réaliste, l’exploration de la personnalité d’un homme méprisé par la société.
Le Joker sera réalisé par Todd Phillips (Very Bad Trip), qui a également écrit le scénario avec Scott Silver (8 mile, Fighter…).
En revanche, il y a du monde à changer à la tête de la Warner.
Multiplier les versions d’un même personnage sur grand écran, ça ne va sûrement pas aider à clarifier le DCU pour les spectateurs lambdas qui sont majoritaires.
“Three or four years ago, I called my agent and said ‘Why don’t they want to take one of these characters and just make a lower budget film about it, a movie but a character study, and why not take one of the villains?’ And I thought, ‘You can’t do the Joker, because, you know, it’s just you can’t do that character, it’s just been done.’ So I was trying to think of other characters, and he said ‘I’ll set up a general meeting with Warner Bros.’ And I said ‘I’m not gonna go, I can’t go to a general meeting.’ So I completely forgot about it, and so then I heard about this idea, I was like, ‘Oh that’s so exciting, that’s the kind of experience I wanted to have, with a movie based on a comic character.’ I felt like you could get something on screen.”
J’espère que De Niro va pas jouer le rôle du père du Joker, quant à lui…
Et plus largement, qu’ils ne feront une « origin-story », à même d’annihiler tout le potentiel du perso.
