M.A.S.K. #1 (Dan Watters / Pye Parr)

Announced during Robert Kirkman’s keynote at ComicsPro, Skybound and Image Comics have revealed that M.A.S.K. is joining the Energon Universe in collaboration with Hasbro. The new ongoing series comes from writer Dan Watters (Batman: Dark Patterns, DESTRO), artist Pye Parr (Petrol Head, New Gods), colorist Pierluigi Casolino (DC vs Vampires), and letterer Rus Wooton (TRANSFORMERS). The debut issue arrives June 3, 2026, expanding the Energon Universe in a major way as its heroes confront a growing threat to humanity.

In the series, the world is spiraling toward chaos, and Matt Trakker forms M.A.S.K., a rapid-response network equipped with advanced technology that transforms vehicles and their drivers into powerful combat units. Standing in their way is Miles Mayhem and V.E.N.O.M., locked in a covert arms race and hunting for devastating weapons from Earth and beyond. As both sides escalate, Trakker’s own secrets threaten to undermine the mission from within.

“Illusion is the ultimate weapon, but also sometimes weapons are the ultimate weapon,” said Dan Watters. “M.A.S.K. is a book about ordinary people taking it into their own hands to face down the awesome weaponry of the Energon Universe, and a high octane, nonstop thrill ride to boot. I couldn’t be prouder to be bringing you this story alongside Pye this summer. Welcome to the M.A.S.K. network. Matt Trakker needs you to save the world.”

“80s sports cars! Jets! Lasers! Robots! M.A.S.K. has everything that I love to read, watch, and draw, and my inner 12-year-old fought to the surface and made me scream loudly in the meeting when I was offered this gig,” said Pye Parr. “Never have I more bitterly regretted selling my beloved childhood toys, but the chance to rebuild all that stuff on the page has more than made up for it, and I can’t wait to see where Dan takes us in the Energon Universe.”

M.A.S.K. #1 will feature a main cover by Pye Parr, alongside open-to-order variants by J. Scott Campbell, Cedric Poulat, and Mark Spears. Additional covers include Energon Universe Third Anniversary connecting covers by Tom Reilly and Adriano Lucas, incentive variants by Kael Ngu, E.J. Su, Jonboy Meyers, Joshua Cassara and Romulo Fajardo Jr., and Daniel Warren Johnson and Mike Spicer. Readers can also find blank sketch covers featuring M.A.S.K. and V.E.N.O.M., foil covers by Parr and Campbell, and die-cut foil mask covers by Parr, Luke Preece, and Andres Juarez.

The issue will also launch the first Energon Universe blind bag program, giving fans a chance to receive any of the solicited covers, with rare surprise variants hidden inside. These surprise editions will not be announced ahead of release.

“I love M.A.S.K.!” screamed Robert Kirkman. “Readers are going to freak out when they see how awesome this book is. Dan and Pye are expanding the Energon Universe in the coolest ways possible.”

“We’ve been working on M.A.S.K. in the shadows for so long, I’m thrilled to finally pull the curtain back and reveal what we’ve cooked up,” noted Executive Editor Ben Abernathy. “Dan, Pye, Pierluigi, and Rus are delivering a thrilling new chapter in the Energon Universe!”

Ahead of the launch, Skybound and Hasbro will offer a first look at the series in Energon Universe Special 2026, a Free Comic Book Day release arriving May 2, 2026. The issue will include new stories from TRANSFORMERS, G.I. JOE, and Void Rivals, along with the first official preview of Watters and Parr’s M.A.S.K.

M.A.S.K. joins Void Rivals by Robert Kirkman and Andrei Bressan, TRANSFORMERS by Robert Kirkman and Dan Mora, and G.I. JOE by Joshua Williamson and Andrea Milana as part of the expanding Energon Universe. Originally launched in 1985, M.A.S.K. became a pop culture phenomenon through its animated series and bestselling toy line, following Matt Trakker’s team as they battled Miles Mayhem and V.E.N.O.M. with transforming vehicles and advanced masks. Now, the franchise enters a new chapter within the Energon Universe.

M.A.S.K. #1 (Lunar Codes Coming Soon| $4.99, unless otherwise noted) will be available at comic book shops and digital platforms, including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
