Mary Jane gets 60th anniversary special one-shot for August 2026
Marvel celebrates 60 years of Mary Jane Watson with a star-studded one-shot and a fresh look at her iconic legacy.
Sixty years ago, Marvel Comics struck gold with the debut of Mary Jane Watson in Amazing Spider-Man #42. Created by Stan Lee and John Romita Sr., the character has gone on to become one of the most recognizable figures in comics. From Peter Parker’s true love to a fashion model, superhero, and recently a symbiote host, Mary Jane’s story has continued to evolve across decades.
This August, Marvel is celebrating that legacy with Mary Jane: Face It, Tiger #1, a giant-sized one-shot packed with new stories that explore her most iconic eras while also teasing what lies ahead. The celebration will also include a new line of Mary Jane Watson variant covers, showcasing fresh artwork from some of today’s top artists.
The one-shot features a lineup of acclaimed writers, including J.M. DeMatteis, J. Michael Straczynski, Ann Nocenti, and Ashley Allen. They’re joined by artists Phil Noto, Alina Erofeeva, Andrea Broccardo, and Luigi Zagaria, bringing a wide range of styles to the character.
“Since we first saw her ASM #42, we ALL hit the jackpot!” said Spider-Editor Nick Lowe. “Mary Jane has had one heck of a journey from supporting character in a love-triangle all the way to super hero! It’s super rare for a supporting character to become a main character, but Ms. Watson is one of those rare breeds, and we’re all lucky to be a part of her story!”
Marvel also revealed Jim Cheung’s main cover, along with a variant by David Nakayama, which will be available as a virgin variant as well. Mary Jane: Face It, Tiger #1 arrives on August 5th.
