J’ai croisé ce nouveau Nova à l’occasion de l’Original Sin #0, et j’ai bien aimé le personnage, que j’ai trouvé touchant. Du coup, j’ai jeté un œil à la série régulière. Et je trouve ce premier arc très sympa.
Loeb raconte un récit à la fois décompressé et dense. Décompressé parce que les choses prennent leur temps pour advenir (Sam ne reçoit les pouvoirs qu’au milieu du deuxième épisode, par exemple). Mais dense parce qu’il profite de cette construction pour poser plein de dialogues et donc renforcer la caractérisation.
Sur un thème assez éculé (la quête du père), il parvient à construire un ado touchant, une maman avec une réelle présence, et un entourage très cliché mais déjà porteur de potentiel (la petite nana à la mèche mauve). L’utilisation des flash-back est ingénieuse, parce qu’elle permet de dévoiler progressivement la vérité tout en donnant la vision, divergente bien entendu, des différents protagonistes (et le dernier permet même de creuser un peu la relation entre la mère et le fils). Bon, l’écriture rétroactive du Corps des Nova s’accompagne de quelques entorses à la continuité (ah bon, Gamora et Rocket Raccoon faisaient déjà équipe ?), mais ça me semble secondaire.
La partie action est super bien menée, par un McGuinness en pleine possession de ses moyens. C’est musclé, rapide, et les dialogues tombent impeccablement. Loeb se débrouille assez bien pour faire parler l’ado.
Bref, ça envoie du bois et ça sert de bon tremplin à la série. Que je vais continuer à explorer.

Là, j’entame les Zeb Wells : je suis pas toujours fan de ce qu’il propose, mais je trouve qu’il gère bien deux choses. D’une part, le côté « l’ado qui fait que des bêtises », il en tire beaucoup d’humour de situation. D’autre part les relations entre Nova et son casque, qui jouent sur un registre voisin de celui de Richard Rider avec Mindworld, mais en évitant la redite.

Je ne sais si ça joue, mais la lecture de manière mensuelle m’a copieusement ennuyé, quelque soit l’auteur !
