Annoncé il y a déjà quelque temps, le retour de Ennis sur la version Max du Punisher est confirmé par le scénariste lui-même au moment de la London Super Comic-Con.
Il précise qu’il s’agit d’une préquelle qui se focalisera sur les débuts de Frank Castle au Vietnam (située avant la mini-série Born).

Le Punisher est né lors de la dernière période de service de Frank Castle au Vietnam (voir la mini-série Born de Garth Ennis et Darick Robertson).
Dans la préquelle Punisher : The Platoon, Garth Ennis et Goran Parlov (Punisher, Fury, Starlight…) relatent les premières années de Frank Castle au Vietnam…son premier commandement…son premier mort au combat.
GARTH ENNIS : Given that Born was set during Frank’s third tour of duty in Vietnam, I knew that I’d eventually want to go back and examine his first and second, just to give us a better impression of the road that took him to Firebase Valley Forge. In this one we’ll see how he manages to impress a number of, shall we say, talent-spotters - who are constantly keeping an eye on things from behind the scenes. For what happens next, on his second tour - well, watch this space.
As for first kills and so on, the story has something to say about that- about what we want to know, or perhaps what we think we have a right to know.
