The vampire onslaught of BLOOD HUNT knows no bounds, reaching all the way down to New Orleans, Louisiana, home of the Strange Academy! Doyle Dormammu, Zoe Laveau, Shaylee Moonpeddle, Germán Aguilar, and Toth get embroiled in an adventure that will take them around the Marvel Universe and right into the center of the BLOOD HUNT action! Their mission: find the ancient Darkhold and cast the spell that will destroy all vampires. Sympathique. L’on retrouve les élèves de la Strange Academy, dont certains en voyage à la Nouvelle-Orléans durant l’attaque de Blood Hunt. Ils sont accompagnés par une nouvelle mystérieuse, qui les aide à fuir. Dr Voodoo l’interroge elle, seulement, quand la forme astrale de Strange vient tout lui expliquer. Ils évoquent la Montesi Formula, pour détruire tous les vampires, et ont besoin du Darkhold, entrevu à Madripoor. Les élèves l’entendent, y vont, croisent un gamin lié à Agatha qui les maltraite… sauf la nouvelle, qui se révèle être une vampire.
Sympathique, oui, sans plus. Il est plus agréable, en fait, de retrouver les élèves en eux-mêmes et la dynamique de la Strange Academy, que le fond d’une intrigue basique. Daniel José Older livre un scénario correct, sans emballer, et les dessins de Luigi Zagaria suivent de loin Humberto Ramos.
Le même scénariste propose des annexes sur le jeune lié à Agatha, récit bondissant mais sans passion et la nouvelle, comment elle a été vampirisée là aussi sobrement. Avec un dessin correct par Eric Gapstur.
Sans grand intérêt hormis le plaisir de retrouver les personnages.

The Strange Academy kids’ mission to find a spell to solve the Blood Hunt has taken them all the way to Madripoor to find THE DARKHOLD! Readers of CONTEST OF CHAOS know, however, that the Darkhold is now a child and the only way to stop the Vampire onslaught means…the death of the Darkhold Child!

Objectivement, le mieux de cet épisode, c’est la couverture d’Humberto Ramos. Le scénario de Daniel José Older ne me passionne guère, se fixant sur des personnages « annexes » et même nouveaux de la Strange Academy, dont la jeune Vampire appelée Pia, que certains élèves veulent défendre face au Darkhold Child, qui envisage de libérer la Montesi Formula mais surtout de se libérer d’Agatha Harkness. Celle-ci manipule certains, dont Dr Voodoo, pour retrouver le gamin lié au Darkhold, qui fuit et enlève Pia pour de sombres projets, alors que Dr Doom vient proposer son aide, et les jeunes élèves acceptent.
Bof, oui. Le scénario n’est pas passionnant, ni Pia, ni le Darkhold Child ne sont particulièrement emballants, et l’ensemble demeure assez lourd et maladroit. Les dessins de Luigi Zagaria font le job, mais ça ne reste pas en mémoire, et tout ça n’aura dû être qu’un gros one-shot, étant en outre assez déconnecté de Blood Hunt, sans proposer grand-chose de prenant.
Un échec, pour moi.

A oublier. Daniel Jose Older achève péniblement sa saga avec évidemment les élèves qui viennent aider l’enfant Darkhold qui a changé d’avis sur les Vampires grâce à leur camarade, face à Agatha Harkness bien faible face à eux. L’alliance avec Doom mène à un sortilège commun assez flou, sans issue claire.
C’est raté, oui. Saga trop longue, pas bien menée, pas bien dessinée même si ça reste correct, mais sans briller.
