Dark Circle has an entire library of heroes, villains, worlds and teams that has been basically untapped," Segura told USA Today. "We’re bringing together a group of great writers, artists and more to jump in without many rules. We’re handing them the keys and telling them to go crazy.

« She’s a hero for today, » he says, « brave, tough, not afraid to tell it like it is and representative of the things we all want this nation to be. »

C’est David William qui se chargera de la partie graphique du titre.
Ci-dessous, l’affiche de Francesco Francavilla présentée lors du New York Comic Con:
I’ve wanted to work with David for a long time. He’s done a lot of work at IDW and some « Nova » issues for Marvel, and I’m not ashamed to say I was trolling his deviantArt page. He’s just got chops, man. He knows how to draw in a variety of styles and settings. Still, it just seemed like we were ships passing in the night. We talked a lot but for whatever reason couldn’t nail anything down. Then he did that great Black Hood variant cover for us, and let it be known that The Shield was his favorite character. Once we knew Wilfredo wasn’t going to be the regular artist, David was the obvious choice. Wilfredo’s designs for Shield are really perfect, and show the character to be more soldier and warrior than costumed avenger, which is exactly the story Chuck and Adam are trying to tell. Having David step in to put his own spin on her and design the ever-growing cast of villains and supporting characters is really perfect. He has a dynamic style that suits the action of the book but is also really adept at the quiet moments. He’s also synced into the madcap brain trust of Chuck and Adam almost too perfectly.

Enfin un éditeur a le bon goût de lui donner autre chose à faire que des couvertures.

Victoria Adams is a woman with a very mysterious past, and we explore that right from the first panel of the first issue. She is a new character but one inextricably entangled with the Shield – not just the previous versions of the superhero, but the core concepts of what it actually means to carry the name. The opening story arc is about her finding her place in the modern world, working out not just who she is and what she can do but why she needs to do it. She wears a costume and a mask for a reason, but at the same time she is a soldier. But she’ll have to face some key questions: Who is she fighting for? What does she represent? What does it mean to wear the emblem on her chest? These are things she is going to discover herself, alongside the reader.
Right. This isn’t the Shield’s first rodeo. This isn’t her origin story. She’s returned to the world – reborn, in a sense – and we discover that this is not the first time she’s appeared here. She has been a soldier and a warrior, appearing any time the country and its people are in danger. This time the great mystery becomes why is she back now? What is the danger? The threat is no longer obvious.

She’s a new character, one that still represents the core ideas and concepts behind The Shield, but with her own origin, history, purpose and story. The old history and continuity still exists, and in fact Victoria slots into the existing universe. But while we have the old continuity as a touchstone, if and when we need to use it, straight away we’re exploring new stories and ideas. The old Shield still exists within the Dark Circle universe… and maybe one day he and Victoria will meet.
The Shield certainly doesn’t exist in isolation—she has allies and friends, she has enemies. In the first story arc we’ll meet Nicole, a cop from Washington DC with a secret all of her own, who takes the amnesiac, befuddled Victoria under her wing, and also the enigmatic and deliciously evil Walter Chase. He’s our first big bad… and someone who has been waiting for The Shield to reappear in our world.
