Il ne s’agit pas seulement d’un crossover, contrairement a ce qui est annoncé ci-dessus, mais d’une nouvelle série régulière qui débutera l’été prochain. L’équipe des G.I. Joe sera envoyée dans l’espace pour combattre la menace de Cybertron:

Tom Scioli et John Barber ont révélé quelques images de Transformers vs. G.I. Joe #0 qui paraitra le jour du Free Comic Book Day en mai:

Voici deux pages Transformers vs. G.I. Joe #0:
So far it looks like each issue is going to be a complete “Transformers vs. G.I. Joe” epic that, when taken together, will add up to a multi-chapter mega epic. We’ve got a really good plot going. Figuring out the tone is the next big challenge. How serious, how funny, how topical.

What’s it about? Change or die. It’s about a big universe where people build crazy, wild, awesome things and use them to kill each other. I’d like to shepherd the characters to a place where they don’t want to kill each other anymore, but I don’t know if they’ll ever get there or not.

So far, the script for this first issue, which we’re close to finishing, is the best thing I’ve ever worked on. I’ve spent more hours per page on this than anything I’ve done before, and the results are better than I could’ve imagined.

Sound does not travel in space, so I imagined them communicating via electronic text messages, like the Watson computer that plays Jeopardy. He doesn’t listen to the questions, they’re texted to him.

Bumblebee was in the story first. Just him. He was a semi-mythical golden man that was seen by locals in the desert. He’s collecting energon to fuel his ship for the ride home. The G.I. Joes misidentify him as an enemy drone, and shoot, puncturing the energon cube, injuring the identical-looking Duke, Snake Eyes, and Hawk. Snake Eyes got the worst of it, Hawk’s injuries weren’t as bad, but he had to take a desk job, and Duke took on a drill sergeant role, rather than active combat.

I just find that so many comics have a lot of redundancy, a lot of over-explaining, a lot of images of basically the same thing, so part of the approach is to just eliminate redundancy and just give you the things you need to move the narrative forward. I sort of crossed a point of no return with it, I think, and where that came from is that I wrote a script for a Transformers vs. GI Joe movie adaptation.

You know, the movie doesn’t exist yet, but I made a comic as though I was adapting a movie, and how movie adaptations are. There are chunks missing, and jumps because of the time it takes to take an hour and a half movie and put it into a comic, you’re going to have to cut some things out. I wrote something with that sort of style in mind, and after I did that, I realized that’s a tool I could use any time. It doesn’t have to be restricted to this particular conceit, it’s just a tool in my arsenal now. It was really effective in that script, which hasn’t come out yet, but it was just a really intense reading experience.p
INTERVIEW DE TOM SCIOLI - PARTIE 1
I wrote a very long script, a very long outline, prior to working on the #0 issue. It had all kinds of stuff, it had vikings, it had tons of stuff, and then when it came time to make the actual issue, it was like “Okay, what can actually go in here?” When I mapped out this particular issue, the Vikings weren’t there, but then all of the sudden it came together. That happens a lot. It happened on pretty much every issue, where there’s something that finds its way in that was part of that old initial document.

But yeah, when I approached this series, I wanted to create a universe that rivals the Marvel Universe, that rivals whatever. I wanted there to be a deep, deep past, a deep, deep future, and however much of that makes its way to the actual comic is just a matter of luck. That was a little glimpse of something. That moment was a depiction of that deep past, but it did occur to me the other day that there’s nothing in the comic that says that took place a thousand years ago, so technically those Vikings in the rowboat could be heading their way to modern-day New York or something.
