Valiant Beyond: The X-O Manowar#1 goes on sale April 2, followed by All-New Harbinger#1 on April 16 from Valiant Comics and Alien Books. The initial Valiant Beyond titles are expected to be told in three or four issue series and continue over 12-issue arcs.

Nouvelle sortie du Valiant Beyond, relance « à la Ultimate/Absolute » des personnages, et… nouveau lancement tiède, voire même bien pauvre.
Dans un monde post guerre entre Humains et Psiots, la coexistence est réelle (malgré des tags « Harada was right ») mais les Psiots dominent. Une Humaine terroriste qui se donne des pouvoirs fictifs lance une prise d’otage, ce qui pousse Peter Stanchek, grand responsable de sécurité et d’entreprise, à lancer son équipe de sécurité Harbinger pilotée par Livewire. Archer mène le groupe et Flamingo, Alloy et Crane sont sortis de leurs vies quotidiennes pour agir. Avec une nouvelle recrue d’un institut de jeunes Psiots, tous acharnés sur le dogme dominant.
Bon, c’est pas brillant. Fred Van Lente tente quelques choses mais n’en réussit pas beaucoup, entre sa ville futuriste fade, l’arrivée basique des personnages, un Stanchek tiède, un Archer pauvre et une menace bof. Avec des dessins corrects mais pas brillants de Erik Tamayo, c’est peu.
Nouveau Valiant Beyond, nouvelle déception. Ça commence à faire beaucoup.

C’est un peu mieux, mais ce n’est pas brillant. Fred Van Lente enchaîne, avec l’arrivée en retard de la petite nouvelle des Harbingers, les super-héros / super-flics de Foundation City, dirigée par Peter Stanchek. Elle découvre que le groupe a été tabassé par Black Sheep, mais elle retrouve le métamorphe qui l’oriente même s’il est blasé par ce qu’elle semble faire. Flamingo a été envoyée en dehors du dôme, et elle est aidée par des gens « normaux » et paumés qui essayent de rentrer dans la ville depuis un an, en vain. Crane en appelle à sa version humaine, avec qui il échange de place apparemment (car l’Humain couche avec une femme du peuple de Crane), pour se libérer du dôme où il est coincé. Archer revient aider la nouvelle face à Black Sheep, ils reprennent la main mais le robot allié de Black Sheep tue le métamorphe et enclenche des explosions pour détruire les héros.
C’est un peu mieux, oui. Fred Van Lente aborde mieux les héros, donne des éléments de caractérisation assez simples voire simplistes, mais ça fonctionne car il sait quand même y faire. Ça se laisse lire, mais ça ne m’emballe pas, et le subplot d’une société élitiste oppressante ne m’excite pas. Les dessins d’Erik Tamayo sont corrects, dans une approche inspirée par Doug Braithwait pas désagréable.
Un peu mieux, mais franchement assez cliché et peu emballant.
A HARBINGER DIES! What, already? Yeah, we’re not screwing around here in Valiant Beyond. Which member of the Harbinger Field Team falls to a pro-human terrorist 's unprecedented destruction of Foundation City? Flamingo? Crane? Alloy? CiCi? Team Leader Archer? Or the Supremum himself, Peter Stanchek?!
