Où l’on découvre que Frank Miller, bien avant Dark Knight, s’était associé à Steve Gerber pour proposer un projet impliquant une refonte conjointe de Superman, de Batman et de Wonder Woman.
Puisqu’on parle de Frank Miller un peu plus haut, je vous fais part de quelques petites citations que j’ai trouvées ici et là.
Tout remonte en fait au projet « Metropolis » à l’occasion de quoi Steve Gerber et Frank Miller ont monté un projet visant à relancer Batman, Superman et Wonder Woman dans trois séries sous-titrées respectivement « Dark Knight », « Man of Steel » et « Amazon ».Crisis on Infinite Earths , et donnera naissance à différents autres projets. Je ne sais plus si on en a parlé ici (et j’ai pas eu le temps de chercher).ici (extrait d’un entretien entre Frank Miller et Peter Sanderson dans Amazing Heroes #102 , en 1986) :
Actually, “Batman: Year One” has its origins in Miller’s concept for the original Dark Knight series some years ago. It was then that Miller and Steve Gerber proposed to DC their idea for the “Metropolis” line of comics, which would revamp DC’s three principal characters and start their continuity over again from the beginning. The new Wonder Woman series would have been titled Amazon, the new Superman series The Man of Steel (which, of course, would not have been the same as John Byrne’s series of the same name), and the new Batman series would have been called Dark Knight. “I plotted the first four issues of the Batman title,” Miller says, but the Metropolis line was never launched, and he later used some of the ideas he had worked up for the Batman in his recent graphic novel series.

Et donc, en cherchant un brin, je retombe sur différents sites qui évoquent cette période (un peu avant et un peu après Crisis). Chose intéressante, on se rend rapidement compte que c’était une période d’ébullition avec plein de projets lancés et associés à plein de grands noms.
Par exemple, ici :
For a time, it seemed that Alan Moore would write the new Superman team-up series, which became Action. However, Moore proved to be too busy with his other commitments and withdrew. John Byrne will write and pencil Action as well as the new Superman series. According to Byrne, « Action is going to be… action. I’m just going to break everything. »

· DC’s idea for the reboot was to launch a mini-series followed by a two-month break, before returning with three ongoing titles. The first of these would adopt the ‘Superman’ ongoing numbering and be scripted by Wolfman (this became ‘The Adventures Of Superman’. Byrne was give the main title (Superman v2) whilst Frank Miller was brought onboard to start a new ongoing focusing on a ‘Brave And The Bold’ layout, using Superman instead of Batman. Miller’s workload became too much and this idea eventually became the Byrne scripted ‘Action Comics’.
De tout cela, on retiendra que le titre « Dark Knight » n’a pas été perdu pour tout le monde, que les quatre synopsis d’épisodes de ce projet ont sans doute donné naissance aux quatre chapitres de Year One … mais qu’on n’a pas eu le droit au « Superman team-up » d’Alan Moore, ni au « Brave and the Bold » de Miller.
Encore des choses qui doivent être sur les rayonnages de la bibliothèque infinie du Sandman, et qu’il faudra bien qu’on lise un jour, même en rêve.
