Mike Tyson & the X-Men Par Adam Kubert :
Through Marvel, I believe it was the president of Showtime that commissioned me to do the work. As you said, Mike was a huge X-Men fan and they wanted a drawing done of him with his favorite super heroes.
So the final drawing was supposed to be given to Mike after his famous ear biting fight with Holyfield. Showtime flew me out to Vegas for the presentation. I believe they were also going to fly Stan out but he was smart and stayed home. Anyway, Mike lost the fight and there was no presentation. I went with my cousin and still had a great time, the fight was crazy!
The original itself was hand colored. I made some prints of it before it left my hands. I think it was Joe Rosas that did the coloring but I’m not positive.
Anyway, Mike was supposedly given the original but I didn’t find out for sure until years later. Sports Illustrated did an interview with Mike at home. One of the pictures in the article showed Iron Mike sitting at his living room couch…. With my drawing hanging above him!!
The kicker was in his interview. He mentioned the drawing was one of his prized possessions which was super cool. And then he said it was drawn by Stan Lee

Ferran Delgado : "Plot of the opening splash of X-Men #133 and original art courtesy of the Byrne X-Men Artifact Edition. The first and main item in the plot is the handwritten note at the top by Claremont (CSC) saying that he by mistake wrote the plots of issues #133 and 134 (parts II and III of the Dark Phoenix Saga of FOUR) as a single plot so Byrne should split it, choosing the point of the cliffhanger. The note reveals a key point, STERN was the original editor of the Dark Phoenix Saga, not Salicrup, who inherited the arc fully plotted, when it was only a four-issues story. Notice the date of the plot, Aug 15 1979, and the date of the splash, Aug 27. The plots of parts 2-4 of the Dark Phoenix Saga were written the same day, way in advance of their release date (#133 was distributed Feb 19, 1980, cover dated May, 1980). This is what allowed so many radical changes not only at the end, but also in the middle.
About the splash, the margin note says: “Well, here we all are once again, as the bad guys search for Wolverine, who probably tripped a silent alarm getting back in––“. Again Byrne changes the plot written after a phone talk between Byrne and Claremont. Chris shows in the splash Wolverine already attacking the goons while Byrne showed the scene in a more subtle way and moved the action to page 2. Another sample of Byrne rearranging the story agreed by phone. Plots are fascinating to discover the struggle between Byrne and Claremont. Remember, you read it here first."
« This scene from X-Men #133 was borrowed from Dirty Harry. As you can read in the plot typed by Claremont after a phone call with Byrne, Claremont was not shy about the source (“Hmmm, where have I heard this line before?”). Claremont didn’t break the plot in comic pages except the opening splash, so Byrne distributed the scenes as he felt. Byrne moved the moment when Wolvie lifted the goon to the next page. Remember, you read the plot here first. »
