Étrangement voila un truc qui m’intrigue
C’est complètement con, mais si ça à la saveur d’annihilation et son niveau et que ça remet du bon 2099 je suis assez partant.
Si ça bute toutes les histoires pourries et personnages nazes de Steve Orlando, ça me va.

Cocasse, à la limite du ridicule, mais suffisamment surprenant pour donner envie de lire la suite. Voilà le bilan de cet Annihilation 2099 #1 où, durant toute la lecture, j’ai pensé que ça aurait pu s’appeler Old Man Nova, tant The Last Nova pioche du côté des personnages blasés, usés et cowboy-esques des séries Old Man (Logan, Hawkeye, Star-Lord…).
On voit ainsi un Dernier Nova, qui a été recruté par Xandar parmi les Terriens : marqué par Timestorm, mutilé par des Hulks, il a accepté une expérience où l’Energie Nova est intégrée directement dans ses cellules. Cela lui a permis de se régénérer, alors que des exo-créatures attaquent Xandar et tuent tout le monde. Il les repousse, mais est seul survivant, et erre depuis en Dernier Nova, très cowboy donc. Il affronte sur une planète des gars possédés par un symbiote et vénérant le dieu martyr Knull, et ce Dernier Nova doit utiliser ses capacités personnelles pour les stopper. Car oui, ce Dernier Nova a une identité connue… et c’est Wolverine 2099 ! Mon idée de titre alternatif prend donc tout son sens, la surprise est totale car je ne pensais pas que Marvel et Steve Orlando oseraient cette évidence.
Bon, l’épisode tient essentiellement sur cette surprise et une écriture western maîtrisée mais sans audace. Ca passe, ça passe bien, je suis curieux de la suite, même si, après lecture, je me dis que ça tient peu (pourquoi Wolverine 2099 avait le bras amputé avant l’Energie Nova ? comment a-t-il récupéré ses griffes après ? et bon, la lassitude de le voir là, même si ça « répond » à la question de savoir ce que cet immortel fait en 2099).
Le dessin d’Ibraim Roberson est bon, bien adapté à l’ambiance western, alors que la back-up sur l’énième résurrection de Dracula dans un vaisseau spatial dont il fait sa future base d’expansion est trop basique. Le charisme est peu présent, et il faudra batailler pour que Steve Orlando convainque dans ces back-ups, et l’événement Conquest 2099 à venir.
Cocasse, car c’est tellement WTF et inattendu que ça devient prenant, mais ça risque de lasser vite.

Lu aussi sur l’ordi, et j’ai trouvé ça suffisamment fun pour le prendre chez Pulp’s.
Allez savoir pourquoi, le back up consacré à Dracula m’a fait penser à Jason X.

Bof, bof. Steve Orlando enchaîne avec la présentation d’un autre personnage cosmique de 2099 et c’est moyen. On voit ici une Starlord, Amandla qui reprend un titre connu en proposant un système de surveillance globale aux mondes en besoin. Elle a été recueillie jadis par la planète Wakanda et vient ici aider un monde menacé par son Soleil devenu conscient et tyrannique. Elle sauve la planète, qui accepte son contrat mais l’on comprend que elle est à l’origine de la conscience du Soleil pour forcer l’acceptation de son système de surveillance.
C’est très moyen. Steve Orlando livre un récit basique avec un twist mal amené, et une Starlord peu emballante. C’est assez faible, et seuls les dessins de José Luis ont un vague intérêt.
La back-up minimale sur Dracula ne fait rien avancer et Dale Eaglesham est très moyen.
On revient au bon vieux travail moyen de Steve Orlando, déjà.

Bof, bof. Steve Orlando enchaîne avec une étrange origine du Red Hulk 2099, une bonne histoire en soi mais le lien avec Red Hulk est artificiel. On suit ainsi Ross Romero, jeune scientifique de Alchemax (et copain de Miguel), qui vit son rêve d’explorer l’espace quand il doit mener une mission sur une planète inconnue. Il découvre qu’elle est vivante mais son équipe prend un fragment malgré ses ordres, et des globules blancs les massacrent sauf Ross et un autre… qui le trahit et l’abandonne. Ross se cache dans une cavité, erre des jours et dévore de désespoir un élément rouge qui a poussé pour lui. Il devient alors une entité rouge puissante, avec la connaissance de ce monde mourant : c’est Ego qui est traqué par Terrax pour le sport. Terrax voit en lui un Hulk (ah bon ?), ça se bagarre et Ross l’abandonne dans une cavité de la planète, qui meurt dans un Soleil. Ross part dans l’inconnu.
Gros bof, oui. En soi, l’histoire est correcte, pas originale mais Ross est sympathique et la révélation de la planète est cool. Mais ça n’a aucun sens de dire qu’il est Red Hulk, c’est artificiel et ça me sort d’un récit basique mais sympathique. Pete Woods illustre ça efficacement et fort joliment d’ailleurs.
La page unique de Steve Orlando et Dale Eaglesham sur Dracula continue d’être inutile et de ne rien faire avancer.
Un récit correct mais un titre artificiel qui me sort du truc.
