En 2005, Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) est contacté par le studio Artisan, détenteur des droits de héros mineurs de Marvel, pour s’occuper du scénario de Ant-Man. On est alors à trois ans de la création du Studio Marvel et de la sortie du film Iron Man.
Mais les avis divergent sur le projet alors que Artisan veut faire un film familiale dans la veine de « Chérie, j’ai rétréci les gosses ».

En 2007, Wright rencontre le producteur Kevin Feige qui s’intéresse à ses idées. Wright et Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) rédigent une seconde version du script qui mixe l’époque Tales to Astonish (60’s) et la réactualisation du héros dans les années 80 par John Byrne et David Michelinie (Marvel Premiere). Le scénario tend vers le film d’espionnage « sci-fi » et présentera deux versions du héros: Hank Pym, le Ant-Man original des années 60 et son successeur Scott Lang, un cambrioleur sans ambition.
Ant-Man est alors en bonne position pour la « phase 1* » de Marvel Cinématique. Mais le projet stagne. Feige met la priorité sur la trinité Marvel** et Wright se lance dans l’adaptation de Scott Pilgrim.

Suite au gros succès de The Avengers, Marvel dévoile le programme de la « phase 2 » (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Thor: Dark World, Iron Man 3, The Avengers 2 et Guardians of the Galaxy). Malgré la rencontre entre Joss Whedon (nouveau saint patron de Marvel Cinématique) et Edgar Wright, Ant-Man manque à l’appel. Le réalisateur promet qu’il s’attaquera à Ant-Man dès qu’il aura conclu la Cream trilogy (The World’s End). Marvel le prend au mot et valide une date : le 6 novembre 2015.
Ce qui fait de Ant-Man le premier film officiel de la « 3ème phase. »

En juillet, Edgar Wright se consacre au tournage de la première vidéo « test » présentée pendant le Comic Con. Cette courte vidéo (de mauvaise qualité) offre un aperçu des intentions du réalisateur:

quand même c’est méta quelque chose cette affaire que pym et janet n’aient pas accédé au statut de membre fondateur des vengeurs pour le passage au cinéma.

Pym va nous refaire une dépression avec cette histoire.

C’était une belle surprise au Comic Con au moment de la diffusion, je ne l’avais pas revue depuis, mais même en mauvaise qualité, la vidéo est toujours aussi amusante. Les pouvoirs de Ant-Man inaugure vraiment du bon en terme de dynamisme dans les combats et avec l’humour de Edgar Wright, je suis persuadé que le tout va faire des étincelles, c’est un film que j’attends.

Le scénario va subir une réécriture pour mieux s’insérer dans le « Marvel Cinematic Universe » dixit le producteur Kevin Feige. La production devrait débuter d’ici la fin de l’année.

Frankly, now we have to re-write it to put it a little bit more into the [Marvel Cinematic Universe] because it was written before it existed. We’ve talked about various names [to play the lead] over the past eight years but as you can imagine they keep changing as time goes by. But towards the end of this year, we’ll buckle down and start casting and start refining the script, which is great and which is very Edgar. He has done a great job being incredibly true to the comics but is putting his own spin on it, so we’ll be drawing on multiple mythologies for this one.

Ce n’est plus une rumeur, Marvel veut Paul Rudd (40 ans toujours puceau, La légende de Ron Burgundy) pour Ant-Man.
L’acteur aurait entamé les négociations avec le studio pour incarner Hank Pym ou Scott Lang sur grand écran.

Ce choix d’un Hank Pym âgé divise déjà, mais il n’est pas étonnant. Voici un extrait d’une interview de Edgar Wright datant de 2006 :

Par contre je ne comprends pas forcément la logique de sortie des films !

Ce film est sensé sortir en Août 2015, alors qu’Avengers : âge of Ultron sortirait en Avril 2015.

Avengers (2) aurait donc pour ennemi Ultron (je ne spoil pas trop, c’est dans le titre!), qui fut créé par Ant-Man.
Il eu été logique donc d’avoir le film Ant-Man avant pour mettre en place son introduction ?

Pas dit justement que cette chronologie soit conservée pour les films. Hank Pym ne sera peut-être pas l’inventeur d’Ultron.
