Issue #2 has elements of that. There’s a done-in-one component to it as well, but we really open the doors to a much bigger story. It’s a plot that’s going to drive the book for probably as long as I’m writing it. Once that book is out there, you’ll have a much clearer picture of what « Secret Avengers » is about.

They’re no longer looming above earth in these two issues. Thanos and his cronies are down on the ground, getting all up in our business. Maria has her hands full trying to manage S.H.I.E.L.D.'s resources. There are multiple attacks underway and she’s trying to point as many resources at each as she can. Nick and Coulson are in Brooklyn fighting off a seemingly endless stream of aliens.

Sheep to slaughter.

The team is very competent, but has to work hard to keep it together. Maria Hill’s human resources skills leave something to be desired – as expected when she deals with her problems by erasing the team members’ brains after every mission. Plus her career trajectory is going upwards and A.I.M.'s resurgence clearly surprised her. All of this means pressure. Leaving Mockingbird behind means more pressure. Dissatisfied team members. Problems. Problems. Problems. Karma police bouncing back repercussions of past decisions.
