Ultimate End #5 came out so we have seen that Ganke makes it over. More people were worried about Ganke than they worried about Miles. Ganke is fine. Ganke and Bombshell, who was an original character that there was no Marvel Universe equivalent of, was one of Miles’ buddies are still in this story. His gang of friends remains intact, and added on to that gang of friends is Kamala Khan, Sam Alexander and the people that he’s in the Avengers with already. There is a pretty solid group of new characters from this last few years that have all found each other in friendship and adversity. That’s cool.
Also, we find out that Miles has his Mom back for his effort in Secret Wars. He made some pretty spectacular heroic moves at the end of Secret Wars, thanks to Jonathan Hickman and in return when the universe got put back together he got him Mom back. With that comes the struggle to be Spider-Man behind her back when so much is going on. Its near impossible, and anybody will tell you when you’re trying to live whatever life you’re trying to live outside of your parent’s umbrella, while you’re still living under their umbrella is very, very hard. No matter what you are or what you do. For Miles its Spider-Man.

I know some people want Miles to not have anything to do with Peter Parker and they just want Miles to be Miles, but at the same time he is a legacy character, and there’s a wide difference between the two of them. I think the juxtaposition in this meeting between them speaks to that. If anything it helps define who Miles is. He does have Peter’s blessing to be Spider-Man, but he’s still a completely different character with a different set of problems and strengths and weaknesses.
Having the two of them together every once in a while, is interesting to me. The whole book is not going to be about Peter and Miles. It’s going to be Miles. Peter has obviously joined the ranks of the Tony Starks of the world and is living his global life style.

Miles’ life will be in near constant turmoil. Between living life as Miles Morales, student, Miles Morales, Spider-Man, and Miles Morales, now grandson of this incredibly powerful woman… He’s also an Avenger. This first arc, Brian is setting the stage for where he and Sara are going. Black Cat is a huge part of it, and you’ll start seeing in issue three what her game plan is, and how she’s going to be asserting herself.
I was pleased to see how much Brian ran with the new status quo of Black Cat that Dan established in « Amazing Spider-Man. » That’s the sort of stuff that’s so fun to me in this shared universe, when threads get picked up in different places and taken to the next level. But Black Cat is going to be a huge part of the book, and a huge challenge going forward.
Miles will also have a role in « Civil War II, » and what we have planned after that is pretty hardcore.
