We open with a bang with a sequence I am really excited about. I’m a big fan of the SUPREME POWER versions that were done a number of years ago so I thought, ‘Let’s not hold off. Let’s immediately have the Squadron Sinister fight the Supreme Power group.’ It was fun to write them too because it was keeping with—this was back when Marvel was doing the MAX lineup and there was all this profanity they could use—so they’re like cursing up a storm and they’re coming into the fight very confidently.
And, spoiler alert, the Squadron Sinister just lays waste to them. It was a fun way to introduce these guys, tearing apart their own analogues.

Imagine if people with the super powers and abilities of the Justice League were in control of a country and they ruled, not quite with an iron fist, but more with an « every man for himself » kind of ethos. Their grip on power is pretty tight, but it’s a little bit of carrot and stick. It’s partially based on pure intimidation, because you’ve got people who punch at the weight class of Hyperion and Doctor Spectrum, basically Superman and Green Lantern level. They can hold power for as long as they want to. For them, though, it’s not just about beating people down. It’s a mob mentality over there.
They’re totally fine with robberies, beatings and other crimes, just as long as they get their cut. They just want a piece of the action. That’s their main thing, and we’ll really see that dynamic work out in the first two issues
• They’re the WORLD’S GREATEST… VILLAINS. The SQUADRON SINISTER. And they’re taking Battleworld by force in this Secret Wars tie-in for fans of crime epics like The Godfather, The Sopranos and Sons of Anarchy. But will controlling one Domain be enough for Hyperion and his gang?
