En prévision de l’importante révélation prévue pour Iron Man #17, le rédacteur en chef Axel Alonso annonce un premier « Annual » pour la nouvelle série sur le Vengeurs Doré qui paraitra en février prochain.

One story is a life-changing, huge, ambitious story that has been brewing since issue 6 and culminates in 17, with a jaw-dropping reveal. The other is an epic that brings back characters introduced in Kieron’s first arc, plus Dr. Doom. So both are fairly significant stories and they will dovetail into the “Iron Man Annual” that comes out this February. It should be pretty heavy on many levels.

Bon, j’y pense depuis quelques mois, et je le dis avant la parution du numéro en question: il est fort probable que Tony Stark ait un grand frère du même nom. Il s’agirait de celui modifié génétiquement in-utero par le robot 451, expliquant ainsi pourquoi l’armure Godkiller n’a pas fonctionné avec le Vengeur Doré.

Tiens, si ce que je crois est vrai, je pense avoir deviné l’identité du mystérieux frangin. Les lecteurs de Iron Man #16 ne devraient pas avoir trop de problème à trouver l’intrus.

Je mise trois cacahuètes sur « Mark Stark ».

We now know that Tony has a brother and that brother has spent his entire life living in an iron lung. He didn’t get to do any of the things that Tony had the privilege to do. Plus Tony has also really begun to question the nature of who he is. He’s been dealing with this big existential idea for these last few issues. Now he’s got something that’s much more down to Earth, but no less a threat to the nature of how he considers himself. Both of those things lead into where we’ll go next. It’s nice being able to say, « This is what my run is about. »

Alvaro Martinez does the aforementioned « Two Cities, » [in the Annual] where we get the links between Tranquility Gulch and Troy made explicit. He’s just got a real coolly atmospheric and clean line, which gives the space-city an almost Dan Dare-esque quality (which really helps when romance of space and the death of that dream is kind of what the whole arc was about). He also really makes Udarnik the Shockworker become a real solid character. « Orbital » is by Agustin Padilla, who also did the « Inhumanity » issue. It involves Eli’s New Modernist Army and – well, shall we say a meeting? I wrote the story as my hard-sci-fi Warren Ellis tribute, all 2001 panelling, but Agustin takes it in a different way, turning it into something with much more energy and Marvel Universe glamor. The final story, « By Moonlight » is by Marcos Marz, who just does some incredible structural things with the page. He takes the three scenes, and makes them individual entities and – oh, I don’t really want to give it away. It’s just really beautiful, and makes each scene feel like its own place. When it’s got that romantic edge to it, that really is key.
