Face au succès de la série Afterlife witch Archie Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa qui se concentrera exclusivement sur Sabrina (la jeune sorcière à l’origine de l’invasion zombie), de l’histoire de sa famille païenne à la découverte de ses pouvoirs par ses amis.Robert Hack , la nouvelle série Chilling Adventures of Sabrina sera, d’après le scénariste, bien plus épouvantable que Afterlife, puisant notamment son inspiration dans des films comme « Rosemary’s Baby », « The Exorcist »,« The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane » ou encore « Suspiria ».

Sabrina takes characters we know and love and pushes them in a new, ghastly direction. The horror in Sabrina carries so much weight because we’ve cared for these characters for, quite literally, generations. And Roberto’s scripts alternate between tugging at heartstrings and ripping them out.
It’s a story about witches and witchcraft, demonology and occultism, so yes, the ‹ monsters › are going to be more diabolical.

« Robert [Hack] and I are doing something different with our ‹ Sabrina › series. This is not the Sabrina from ‹ Afterlife, › she exists in a separate universe. And it’s an epic, occult, coming-of-age story, set in the 1960s, so it’s a period piece, as well. And half of the first issue, which is super-sized, is Sabrina as a little girl, a bad seed, before she even gets to high school. (Though don’t worry, she’ll be in a cheerleader’s outfit well before the last page.) And the way ‹ Afterlife › is a showcase for Francesco’s genius, ‹ Sabrina › will be that for Robert Hack. I think people’s minds are going to be blown by what he’s doing. And he’s coloring the book, as well, so it really will have that unified voice. »
The above preview pages will be included, along with a reprint of « Afterlife with Archie » #1 , in a convention-exclusive promo book on sale for $5 at Archie’s booth (#2842 ) at this month’s Comic-Con International in San Diego, happening July 23 through July 27.

She’s not the same Sabrina as in Afterlife, which is set in the present, and which has Sabrina (as of issue #6 ) married to Cthulhu. It’s an alternate version of Sabrina, set in the 1960s, in a different continuity. Sabrina Prime, if you will. Or Ultimate Sabrina. Or Dark Sabrina. That said, it’s not inconceivable that these two very different teen witches might meet-up on some dark and stormy night, at a crossroads, in front of a cemetery…
It feels like my whole life has been research for this book! I am a huge fan of vintage design, the cars, furniture, clothes- the whole look of the era. There wasn’t much of a learning curve needed as my work is already fairly rooted in the past. But I have been studying plenty of old Dan DeCarlo stories and vintage fashion magazines for specific reference.

Absentes des étalages depuis près d’un an, les séries horrifiques de l’éditeur Archie Comics, Afterlife with Archie Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa - la tête pensante derrière les deux séries - avoue que les retards sont de son fait, la faute à un emploi du temps chargé, et promet même un retour régulier des publications avec, toujours, ses collaborateurs Francesco Francavilla et Robert Hack au dessin.
Espérons que le retour de ces deux titres donne des idées à un éditeur français qui aurait pu avoir peur de se lancer sans le matériel adéquat et, avec pour seule assurance, le revival romcom’ de la série Archie Saga ).
Surtout que l’univers d’Archie bénéficiera d’un joli coup de projecteur en 2017 grâce à l’adaptation télévisuelle Riverdale The Flash ).
